What do you do if someone in your condominium has Covid-19?

The coronavirus (COVID-19) spread still continues and remains, and poses a health risk that we have to accept and be aware of. Being in condominiums is risky as well. We, BR Agents, would like to advise on how to proceed if someone in your building has COVID-19.

The measures to deal with Covid-19 is similar for each condominium building

Here’s what needs to be done

1. Closely follow-up on all the announcements and updates from juristic person

If someone is infected with Covid-19, the juristic person must promptly notify other residents, whether it’s through the application of the condominium, line group, or other agreed upon channels

2.Check the timeline, whether you’re considered at risk or not

When you’ve been informed by the juristics office that someone’s been infected with COVID-19 in  your condominium, the next thing you need to do is check the timeline of the person to see if you’re at risk of being infected, and if you fall into the at risk category. Evaluate the information provided by the Department of Disease Control.

High Risk: People who do not wear masks, and have come into close contact with patients infected with COVID-19 while engaging in conversation.

Low Risk: People who wear protective masks, but have been in close proximity to a patient infected with COVID-19 (such as sharing an elevator ride). This group of people don’t need to be quarantined, but should observe any symptoms for 14 days, and should avoid going to crowded places.

No Risk: Those have not been in close contact with the patient, and live in different units/floors.

What happens if you’re in the high-risk group? What do you do?

Those who fall into the high-risk category should get tested for the COVID-19 from the hospital where you can get treated at. You can check your own medical treatment rights at ‘National Health Insurance Office’ or click here

You should immediately self-isolate and quarantine yourself to check for symptoms for 14 days. Symptoms usually occur after 3-4 days after getting infected, depending on the symptoms of each strain. Don’t forget to inform the condominium jurisdiction that you live in ,so they can take care and help coordinate the quarantine and help monitor the situation according to the standards and measures of the Department of Disease control. If you notice any symptoms, you should inform your phone number to your agency for treatment. Call 1330 or 1669, and don’t forget to inform the juristic person and coordinate with the disease control personnel or public health agencies in your area.

For those that aren’t in the risk group, you should proceed with strict precaution as well.

1.Take proper care of yourself
   - Always put on your mask before going out
   - Wash your hands regularly, and avoid touching your face
   - Take care of your health and observe yourself often

2.Keep a safe distance
   - Refrain from using the common areas of the condominium
   - If the elevator is crowded, try waiting for the next ride
   - Stay at a distance of 1-2 meters from others

3.Public responsibility
   - Cooperate with the juristic person and provide accurate information
   - Refrain from going to high-risk areas
   - Do not bring high-risk individuals to the condominium

Another thing everyone should be aware of is the process of working for a juristic person when managing patients infected with COVID-19. If there’s standardized management, the residents will be more safe. The Department of Disease Control has issued measures that should be followed.

Juristics Office Procedures when a patient is infected with Covid-10 in a condominium

1.Personal
   - For infected employees/residents, proceed to stop working immediately, and isolate yourself from others
   - Notify the disease control officer in the area within 3 hours to control the disease, screen high-risk groups, and see a doctor immediately, followed by a 14 day quarantine
   - People with low-risk should isolate themselves and observe symptoms for 14 days. If any symptoms occur, seek medical attention immediately

2.Regarding the location
   - Stop activities in the department/floor with the infected people, and thoroughly clean for 1-3 days, and arrange for cleaning of any equipment in areas that have a high volume of people, such as handrails, door knobs and handles, bathrooms, etc. with a 6% concentration of bleach mixed with clean water (using 1 part solution to 99 parts water) or 70% alcohol.
   - Be careful of collecting infectious waste, such as tissue paper. Used items should be put in a red trash bag and covered tightly.
   - Cleaning people must wear personal equipment, such as gloves, aprons, masks, rubber soled shoes, and protective gear that covers properly at all times.

3.System/Environment
   - Install a temperature detectors at the front of the entrances/exits of the building.
   - Set up a alcohol dispenser in areas that people pass often, such as in front of the elevators
   - Manage the ventilation system for better air circulation
   - Notify the residents quickly for information updates

The most important thing is recognizing someone who is infected with Covid-19 in the condominium, and to remain calm. Keep a safe distance, avoid public/crowded/high-risk areas, and check yourself often for any symptoms. If you’re at high-risk, notify the juristic person.
